Guangzhou is located in a humid subtropical climate with plenty of sunshine and rainfall, but there has been no snow for at least the last 100 years or so. Summers stretch out are humid and scorching, while winters are quite short, a bit mild and sunny. The average yearly temperature in Guangzhou is about 21 °C or 73 °F with the lowest temps being in January when the average low temperature is around 11 °C or 54 °F, and the record highest temperature was about 39 °C or about 102 °F in July. The annual precipitation is around 1,736 millimeters (68 inches). April till early September is definitely the rainy season with several typhoons every year during this period, while June till September is the hottest period.

The Four Seasons: Summer in Guangzhou is hot and humid, while winter on the other hand is cold and dry. Spring and autumn are short and cool. 75% of Guangzhou's annual precipitation is concentrated in summer from June to August, with rather frequent showers in July and August. The coldest month is January at an average of -4 °C (25 °F), and the hottest month is July at an average of 26 °C (79 °F).

Guangzhou is suitable for travel all year round. With regards to season, autumn (September to November) is the best season to visit Guangzhou if you have a choice. Throughout the year, there are many festivals which provide great opportunities for getting to know about local life and customs.
